Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

Mousiemouse wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 2:34 pm Regarding the amount I paid, is it actually tax deductible?
Yes, but it has already been considered by your employer, i.e. you already paid less Lohnsteuer every month because of this.
--> nothing extra to be gained because of this in your tax return.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8fOJdmSbdU This is, quite possibly, the most 70s British thing ever. It feels like a Monty Python skit, just without Monty Python involved. Re: Doctors/dentists Hamburg

Ditto dentist, but that need not be so central. We have met with some pretty weird dentists here and in the UK. Doing unnecessary stuff like replacing filling that don't need it. In that case, I recommend Alldent , it's a dentist chain and has branches all over Germany. Their dentists are employees...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

Someone just said on a different forum that " Post-Brexit the Germans no longer accept contributions to the UK state system for deduction of tax, sadly. I just lost a fight with Finanzamt over this ". I suggested that is not correct and that Brexit has not changed anything in that regard....

I'm changing web-browser today because Chrome no-longer supports the ad-blocker that I use. In the process I have had to re login to a bunch of sites. Grr. How hard is it when a site sends me a confirmation code via email to not include a space at the end and/or make the stupid verification form ig...

I am a UK citizen currently living in Germany with my daughter since August 2020. My sibling, also a UK citizen, recently passed away intestate in the UK. The UK government has confirmed that I am the sole beneficiary of their estate. German Inheritance Tax – As I am currently living in Germany, co...

Transferring a portfolio internationally is not easy. I suggest he first checks whether it is possible to transfer his portfolio from Trading212 to TradeRepublic, i.e. he should instruct Trading212 to send the shares to his new Trade Republic Depot: https://helpcentre.trading212.com/hc/en-us/article...

I'm thinking of buying a mini oven for cooking pizzas, frozen chips etc. From what I've seen it is 1600W and 220-240 volts. Can I plug it into a 'normal' wall plug? Yes, you can see the plug in here: https://www.willhaben.at/iad/kaufen-und-verkaufen/d/koenic-kmo-4341-mini-backofen-20-l-946232458/ 4...

Re: German taxation of foreign interest bearing account

Is there anything to be filed if you don’t sell? I am thinking of just buying ETFs for now without any selling. There will be the Vorabpauschale to tax for accumulating ETF, even if you don't sell anything. You have to tax that just for owning investment funds. But if you are at a German broker, th...

Last year, I registered in October as a Kleinunternehmer (research scientist/Freiberufler), and worked on a couple of small projects, but the company paid for those invoices in January 2025. Does that mean my first year as Kleinunternehmer income was 0 Euro? If yes, than what income limit applies t...

Doing the income tax return in ELSTER is a pain.
--> he should buy the commercial buhl tax software instead (it allows doing up to 5 tax returns, so that's your whole family sorted, if you also want to file): https://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/Of ... -buhl.html

OK, currently starting to look at this with kid#4, he was looking at the two recommended in the other thread, but then on checking, he thinks Trading 212 is German and there should be no problem. He should think again: https://praxistipps.focus.de/trading-212-steuern-auf-gewinne-und-verluste_132931

In my 2024 tax declaration, to respond to the Tax officer's query - should I just write a: a) comment about the current status or b) declare "Anlage V - Sonstige" and declare no income from Undeveloped Land Property "unbebauten Grundstücken" No, you are supposed to write them a ...

They use Trading 212. Kid#4 has mostly € apart from Rolls Royce which is quids (and currently making a loss, hey ho) Kid#3 has all sorts of stuff. Does anyone know whether 212 is an OK platform for them to use, or whether they are going to be doing complicated calculations for their Elster returns?...

It’s important to get a proper property valuation as soon after death as possible. I was advised that this valuation is solely relevant. Even if you eventually sell for more at a later date. For a flat or for a house (a house for one family or one for two families, i.e. for a Einfamilien- oder Zwei...

What is the impact of having German citizenship on tax, or more specifically on inheritance tax? I'm Italian and my wife is Japanese, and we reside in Germany. I expect one day I will likely inherit some from my mum. It'll be less than the current 1M€ Italian threshold, so no payment there with cur...

What would be different, taxwise, if I was working for a non-American company at that time? Or, if the company I am being paid by gets sold by the the parent company and I again go to the US for a short period of time and work remotely from there? Something like being a Digital Nomad. Would I have ...
