Re: UK rental - expat Landlord insurance

I had the same problem until recently. I eventually had to settle for Direct Line after much frustration.
But the policy excess for flooding was 10.000 pounds. But I had no choice.

Re: advice about renting a furnished apartment

A good place to start would be WG-Gesucht Berlin. They offer all sorts of filters to narrow down your search.e.g. furnished or unfurnished, size of flat and so on. In the past, I used them a lot and had no complaints. This should be your first port of call.

And what next? Do they have nativity plays in Germany? In the schools and kindergartens? I hope so.

Re: What made you smile today? :)

As I walked into my local library , I came across a lovely sight. Young kids decorating the Christmas tree. Each kid was given a small decoration to hang on the lower branches. The higher branches were no problem as the adults simply lifted the kids up. It brought a tear to my eye. They were so well...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

But going to the airport without a printed boarding pass does not appeal to me. With my printed boarding pass in my pocket, I can pass thru security and go directly to the gate as I only have a small packback. Without it , what must I do? Where do I get my boading pass printed? At a check in desk? T...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

Age UK have asked Ryanair to not forget about the 4.3 million older people who do not use a smartphone and recommends that there must always be an alternative to digital processing.

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

Ryanair have stated that one of the reasons for these changes is to speed boarding up. Yet my own observations do not bear this out. I am a frequent flyer and I have never seen a printed boarding pass cause a delay at the boarding gate. The same cannot be said of smart phones. While most passangers ...

Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

So Ryanair have recently announced that they will no longer accept paper boarding passes. Boarding can only be done with a smart phone and only then with the Ryanair app and nothing else. I avoid this bunch wherever possible and now it seems I have no choice. But what happens if other airlines follo...

Bowling partner(s) wanted

I would like to have a go at bowling. I am currently checking sites for social bowling , but it might be better to have an alternative. I am based in Lichtenburg but am willing to travel a bit.

Berlin airport closed. Diverted to Dresden

So there I was , flying from Manchester to Berlin, when the captain said that Berlin airport was closed, due to drone sightings and that we were diverting to Dresden. We accepted this without much fuss. These things happen. While on the tarmac at Dresden, the captain said initially that we would hav...

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

So there I was , just behind the tram drivers cabin. He has his smart phone on his lap and everytime the tram stopped for a while e.g. traffic lights, he checked his smart phone. To be fair , he did not use it while driving, but I still found it unsettling. The Terminus was just a few stops away. Th...

avoiding the middle of the day

It is a bit too hot for me these past few days. I now avoid going out between 11 and 3. I lie on my bed with a cooling fan near my head and simply read or listen to the BBC World Service. I would normally go to the gym at about 1 as it breaks the day nicely up. Now I go early in the morning. Even th...

Lorreta Swift was best known as "Hot Lips" Houlihan from the TV show M.A.S.H. What a great name. Yet another very funny half hour comedy show from America: Where are they these days?

Re: Watching older TV shows, preferably in English

I am a great fan of those half hour American sit coms. Cheers was one of the first and one of the best. When I am in a bar, I somtimes use a line that he used when taking a beer . I look at the beer longingly and say "Komm zu Pappi , komm zu Pappi". This gets a smile from the barperson. I ...

Not enough space in my computer for updates

I got a message on my laptop the other day. It said there was not enough space left to allow important updates from Microsoft. Yet in checking the space left, I found I had at least 15.5 GBs. This seems more the enough. So whats going on?
