Re: TAFKAP arrested

He's just one of a large bunch of toffs who made the most of 'services' offered without thinking more about it. He's an easy target and those providing the 'services' are well protected by layers and layers of other scapegoats, I'm sure. (not saying he doesn't deserve what he gets and he definitely ...

Re: Offsetting Familienversicherung income limits

If your daughter is the premium bond holder than she needs to have her own UK bank account; if she is not a resident than Revolut and Wise should work for her, sorry if I did not phrase that clearly before. Most UK banks will not allow her to open her own account unless she is resident, that's why ...

Re: ‘Odd’ request from imminent new Uk tenant

The only time some tenants of mine paid in advance was because they were from Hong Kong - when everyone was escaping - and probably would have had difficulty passing the financial checks. They paid the year in advance in full. However, they did this before signing and didn't ask for a discount. It w...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

You need to call HMRC and tell them which years you want to make the payments for. They will then make a note on your file so it gets correctly assigned once you have transferred the money.

Re: Small kitchen appliances

Not an absolute necessity, but I wouldn't choose to be without one. They are great for re-heating things, cooking stuff that makes a mess in a pot, e.g. porridge, and for defrosting things when you forget to take them out the freezer in time (as I frequently do). I've got an old Panasonic, which is ...

Re: UK general election 2024, who to vote for?

They think it will appeal to the grey voters who the Tories are very much in danger of losing. Likewise with the plan for no tax on pensions. Quite how they think they are going to pay for everything and keep reducing taxes I have no idea. Same applies to Labour though, they are all in cloud-cuckoo ...

Re: How did you learn German?

Honest answer, not sure I really have. Sprachtalent is not something I was at the front of the queue for. Did some courses to C1 (slightly above my level of incompetence) at the VHS when I arrived here, then promptly found a job where English is the working language. My German then deteriorated rapi...
