Re: Car insurance: why does my premium go up?

Car insurance generally makes little sense.
I bought an older "sports car" last year and insured it as a 3rd car, starting at SF2. The insurance is less than 50% of our boring 2l diesel BMW family car with SF20.
That's with almost 2x the PS of the BMW.
Go figure!

Re: Looking for outdoor security cameras….possibly without WIFI

We have 3 Reolink cameras which all run off their own tiny solar panel which you mount next to it. They are WiFi but the range seems decent enough. I get an email (with photo) or a notification if they register anything. The app is nice and responsive and can replay videos saved on the inserted micr...

Re: Delivery nightmares

I'm generally happy enough with the delivery services out here in the sticks, the only exception being that since Covid, most of them don't bother even ringing the doorbell any more. Our normal DHL woman always does though and most of our deliveries come through her so that's good. Like FF I avoid H...

Re: used car buying experience/advice

I'm struggling a bit to see the problem.

There are loads of Golf 7s for sale in Berlin. From dealers. With guarantees. Fitting your criteria.

Is the problem just that the dealer closest to you doesn't have any? :?:

Re: used car buying experience/advice

Another good site to check is autouncle.de: Thanks, I did check it out, and like you pointed out, it has a couple of helpful features (over mobile.de). Most cars however are from Autohero and so I am back to deciding weather it is safe to buy from an online dealer without test drive (I do realize t...

Re: used car buying experience/advice

Thanks for the reply....my criteria are very restrictive :( Like umfallfrei, not more than 2 previous owners, 150ps, low mileage, 2018-2020 model, automatic, benzin. With these the number is really low (far and wide). Hence I was wondering about online purchase. I see cars on some sites like Autohe...

No offence meant towards you, but I wouldn't bring pills (of whatever kind) into the country for someone I didn't know.

Re: Seeking Available Flat or Room in Munich

Sorry to say, I just cannot see anybody getting a flat at that price, near the center of Munich. Sorry to say Munich has grown at lot in population and reputation, hence the price as well. Yep.... I was paying 1800 DM for a 1 bedroom place miles out of the centre way back in 1998 so I dread to thin...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

By the way, the UK is talking about means testing the UK state pension, if they do that, depending on your pension income, you might get a reduced or no UK state pension, after having made all the payments I'm sure this will happen at some point but if we can claim the payments back in the German t...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

That would suggest you are not working in Germany, so would not get Class 2 Or working in Germany, but self employed and decide not to pay into the German state pension Apart from a period of 18 months where I was a full-time employee at a company, I was self-employed up to 2009 and since then have...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

That is something I have wondered about. My wife claimed 1 year of Class 3 at about 1,000€ and that was fine but 16 years at Class 3 (as opposed to the cheaper Class 2) would be about 16,000€ in one tax year, potentially wiping out a large proportion of taxable income. I await our Oracle's verdict....

Is there a limit to how much you can claim?

I'm considering back-paying 16 years worth...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

I would be very interested in the answer to this too!

It would be great if you could claim back previous years, but I imagine there would be a time limit for how far you could go back (if at all).

Re: Private vs Public Health Insurance

No doubt about it. Public is cheaper. But here on the Swiss border we have a BIG problem! Doctors would much rather cater to Swiss folks who pay (and then get reimbursed in 🇨🇭) or Germans who are privately insured. Many practices, albeit not all, flatly refuse to see GKK patients like us. Our solut...
