Re: The Conviction of Donald J. Trump

The biggest problem with Trump is that he has no ideas of his own and simply follows what the last person he spoke to told him was a good idea.

Re: Notebook / Laptop repair ideas

We got him a new one in February 2023 for the ridiculous cost of 399€... against my pleading. No surprise today when told that the hinges have broken. A rubbish laptop. Oddly, he can still use it. No chance of closing the lid. "cheap can't be good" is a mantra I always have problem with, ...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

Not happy today because I made it to Interlaken, one of the bestest place for mountain activities, and yet I'll probably spend most of the day stuck in the hostel because of rain. Happy because the hostel is fantastic and full of nice people. And tomorrow it is forecasted dry and warm. I plan huge ...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

Extremely unhappy today because I got disqualified at a bycicle race in which I invested huge emotional capital. Why disqualified? In short: because I'm not capable to ride the bicycle. In almost 50yr of cycling never rode this much distance and climbing and felt so little tired. Sad. Bitter. Not w...

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

I work at home and have a lot of computers running at the same time so having power cuts isn't ideal. To that end I set up a 2kW battery to keep my main workstations & server going for a couple of hours in an emergency. The battery takes about 40ms to kick in, which isn't fast enough to stop th...

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

My unsolicited comment: Do not get the battery (which yes, it is very oversized). Before deciding if you want the 1k eur cut off system: how likely future daytime power cuts actually are, how many you had in the last 20yr (I had zero) and how much problem did they cause? I don't know if it's just o...

Bringing non-EU (UK) parents to Germany

I'm sure this has been discussed before but can't find anything on here about it. One of my friends has lost both of his parents with the last 18 months and that has got me thinking about how I would deal with my parents dying, or rather if just one of them goes. Dad is 80 & mum is 79 and they c...

Re: Live music gigs

FYI - If you want to check out the songs an artist/band is likely to play before the concert have a look at https://www.setlist.fm/ Most artists/bands play the practically the same set list for the gigs of a particular tour. Morrissey is the same with only 1 or 2 song differences for each concert -...

Re: Live music gigs

and was it good ? [rant] I've seen Moz live quite a few times over the years and the setlist was an utter disgrace. 18 songs, of which at least 12 I would class as more average album tracks. Considering the available back catalog, I could have chosen at least 50 other songs which a huge majority of...

I think if her income alone won't be enough, you would be justified in asking that question.

Re: Bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities

Conflicting reports as to how much damage was actually caused. Obviously the orange buffoon is claiming "complete obliteration" but two of the facilities were only attacked with Tomahawks which wouldn't have done anything more than surface damage. I also have my doubts about the capability...

An update to my eyes... both eyes have been operated and have healed very well apparently! I went for roughly -2.0 in each eye so can read my phone and work on the computer without glasses. I will still need glasses for driving and watching TV etc. but I've been wearing glasses for 40 years so that'...

Mark it up as "experience" and never send anything again without tracking and insurance.

Lots of unscrupulous people out there unfortunately.
