Re: Finding a club or group for knitting?

Thank you for the suggestion but I was looking for something in-person. If you/your friend know of anything like this please let me know. Thx. My friend in Berlin didn't have any particular group to recommend, but she said to check Facebook. She knows there are definitely knitting groups in Steglit...

Re: Finding a club or group for knitting?

A friend of mine in Berlin attends Zoom meetings for knitting. The lady in charge is Gabriele Kluge. I found the website https://www.strickrausch.com/ . Of course, you may not be looking for something in German or online, but this is what I know about. If you want a German group in Berlin, I could a...

Re: Bored in Bremen

A common name for a barrelmaker is a cooper, and so a Böttcher is a cooper, the content I stole to base my description on, translated as barrelmaker in one place and cooper in another when I stuck it into deepl to get the meaning :-). There are lots of names for people who make barrels in both engl...

Re: Bored in Bremen

I thought the flowers were beautiful, but I think they pale in comparision to Böttcherstr. Of course, I love architecture anyway. However, why is it Cooper's Street in English? The photos and explanation were interesting, so I looked up Roselius to find out more. Thanks for the explanation and pics ...

Re: Bored in Bremen

I was hoping this might turn into a Bremen specific list of things to do, but its still lovely that a few of you thought to post general ideas for me, thanks for that. I guess none of us regulars are in Bremen. However, in my local newspaper a girl who writes every other week has started an ABC lis...

Re: sign up for KK before starting my new job?

Wouldn't your employer just help you with insurance when you arrive? You won't be a freelancer, right? I had TK. I don't remember, though, how it all worked, but I assume I did my Anmeldung first and then everything else, but it was kind of doing everything as soon as possible. I did everything in G...

Re: Things to ponder

Can anyone else relate to this…..? Living in another country ... It's a daily internal translation exercise. The head works in two, sometimes three languages, ...even choosing a bread at the bakery seems like asking for a kind of energy that depletes quickly. The feeling of being always between two...

Re: Whats up in the East.

I was in Bad Schandau for a Kur once. At that time I was living in Berlin, so it was really nice to get away from the city.

This was interesting: Klimawandel-Adaption und Katastrophenrisikominderung.
The speaker had everyone say this out loud to see if they were awake and after everyone said it, he said they deserved a handclapping for saying it.

I also do hope that John will get well soon. If he is really bored, maybe I could call him, although I assume there are many others that know him better than I do. I have always enjoyed his stories/posts. Thanks John for all your stories and posts and sometimes info that I have found very useful!

Re: Why are you happy today?

I'm happy because someone set up this forum and I finally was able to make time to sign up. Thanks to those who set it up. I don't have grandkids like Beth and John G., but I was happy to receive pictures of one of my "nanny grandkids." The 3 oldest of the children I nannied have their own...
