Re: Stock market investments

If you need access to the money fast, then to transfer money here, one option is to use a service like wise.com (formerly transferwise) which is fast and cheaper than most banks. They have recently started offering an interest bearing current account too. I've been using them for about 10 years with...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Thanks for the update. Seems as though getting a passport from Germany is less hassle than I imagined.
Did you include copies of all pages of the passport i.e. even those which were blank (for my kids that would be all of them)?

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Just in case it wasn't obvious, I also didn't make any false claims when getting my ETA either (I've always considered it to be fairly poor practice to lie on official forms). I specified that I was a dual Brit-German national when prompted too.

Osterland Agrar GmbH describe themselves as Mittlestand. It seems like a really generous concept. I hope they get plenty of good marketing/publicity as a result.

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Well, I can only state again that I have an ETA (as do my kids), so it is definitely possible for British dual nationals to have one. If the article is true, it would seem daft that after February my kids and I (all three of us born in England and previous UK passport holders) would be stopped at th...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Just as an aside, it's significantly faster and cheaper to buy an ETA than to renew a UK passport, and British nationals are able to get an ETA (which it seems the Mail omitted to mention). I know, as I have one.

Re: Purchase discount for freiberufler

I have recently asked similar questions to my Steuerberater. I'm also a freiberufler, who rarely uses a car at all, but if I use it, then sometimes it is for business purposes. His response in brief was: 1) yes, you would need to show you were using it for business purposes (at least, roughly 75% of...

...try your local DRK, Caritas or Buergerbuero (just put those terms in google alongside the name of your town). They typically have advice centres/helplines which may be able to offer some free assistance, or alternatively point you towards someone who can. However, it seems as though you may have ...

They've even been showing some (not all) of the warm up games over the past few weeks. The commentary is pretty good too. The days when analysis of rugby on German TV focussed on the need to pass the ball backwards are long since gone.
Great to see it free to air.

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

Prices here are definitely 30% down on 2-3 years ago. I think the larger battery doesn't make significant financial sense - particularly Alberto's table (if I have understood it correctly) would suggest a smaller battery would be more efficient. The slight difference (as I see it) is that a larger b...

So, I've had two more offers. Eon want just under 21k (so quite a bit more than their "non-binding indicative offer". They have provided a detailed breakdown, which includes: 18 panels (450w) 1,3k Euros 7,7 battery 4k Converter 1.3k Cut off system (so that the PV generates and we can use e...

So, this isn't a new topic and is really more of a rant/me letting off steam. I have no-one else to do this with, so sorry folk (feel free to ignore). It has been obvious for the best part of 10 months that Kid 1 was not going to get good marks this year. We've been chasing and asking what our optio...

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

I think Kiplette may well be right and that the pricing may reflect an Eifel premium. So far I've had three written quotes and a couple of estimates from online comparators. The formal quotes were all close. However, based on Kiplette's thought that local firms may be more expensive, I contacted e.o...

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

I would say it is definitevely overpriced. Have you calculated how long it will take to pay off ? I agree it's pretty expensive too, but a) I'm not getting significantly better quotes (please share supplier details if you have one) and b) we're looking to change one of the cars to electric. Point b...

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

No itemised pricing. When I had the quotes a few years ago, everything was itemised. This time, both quotes so far have had "all in" prices (everything from scaffolding to screws). On the one hand, that makes it easy for me to know the final cost, but equally, I can't see if there are some...

Re: What's up in the Middle

So, Nicksachsen, have you learnt Sorbian? Isn't that your neck of the woods? Sounds interesting. I think linked to Kiplette's comment, it's some sort of Moravian/Ur-Slavic language. You're definitely in the middle though, just the opposite end of the middle to me, if that makes any sense (Belgium is...
