Re: Men's Football world cup 2026

My youngest son watched the game with me, and before going to bed he provided the most accurate match report: "that was terrifying". Perfect summary. The burden of being an England fan. Thought Norway deserved the win yesterday too. It'll be nice to watch Portugal v Spain tonight and actua...

Re: Men's Football world cup 2026

So, Germany go out...on penalties. Can't say I'm particularly heartbroken. That said, nor am I gloating...yet. England have yet to click, and have been struggling to break down teams who sit back and defend, so it could be closer against DRC than it should be. I can't even claim to be surprised by G...

Re: Men's Football world cup 2026

Good second half from England last night. A bit worried by the defence though. Winning that comfortably against Croatia should be a good sign (in fact, considering the strength of the opposition, that was arguably the best performance by any team in the first round of games), but it never pays to be...

Re: Men's Football world cup 2026

Great result for Cape Verde. I knew where it was (unlike Curacao, which I thought was just the name of a 1980s drink until they qualified for the world cup).

Re: Men's Football world cup 2026

The 5 second for a goal kick seems sensible, but is likely to add controversy as it is entirely up to the ref when to start the 5 seconds.

The increased use of VAR is baffling too.

....I don't wish to take this off track, but the claimant is over-egging the "damages". Wasn't anyone else surprised by the allegation that, "his children were forced to lie on the concrete"? I'm guessing that wasn't done by hotel staff. I reckon they might have had a few alterna...

Thanks for the replies....particularly the one from Eric - that made me laugh.
I own a large digger and a decent-sized garden. Part of me has been tempted to dig a bl00dy big hole and bury it all.

Waste removal

I've got a nasty/disappointed feeling I already know the answer to this, but out of sheer exasperation, I thought I'd see if anyone has found an easy solution to this issue: getting rid of waste. I've got an entire downstairs area, and a shed, full of stuff. I have barely used anything in either are...

Re: Stock market investments

If you need access to the money fast, then to transfer money here, one option is to use a service like wise.com (formerly transferwise) which is fast and cheaper than most banks. They have recently started offering an interest bearing current account too. I've been using them for about 10 years with...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Thanks for the update. Seems as though getting a passport from Germany is less hassle than I imagined.
Did you include copies of all pages of the passport i.e. even those which were blank (for my kids that would be all of them)?

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Just in case it wasn't obvious, I also didn't make any false claims when getting my ETA either (I've always considered it to be fairly poor practice to lie on official forms). I specified that I was a dual Brit-German national when prompted too.

Osterland Agrar GmbH describe themselves as Mittlestand. It seems like a really generous concept. I hope they get plenty of good marketing/publicity as a result.

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Well, I can only state again that I have an ETA (as do my kids), so it is definitely possible for British dual nationals to have one. If the article is true, it would seem daft that after February my kids and I (all three of us born in England and previous UK passport holders) would be stopped at th...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Just as an aside, it's significantly faster and cheaper to buy an ETA than to renew a UK passport, and British nationals are able to get an ETA (which it seems the Mail omitted to mention). I know, as I have one.

Re: Purchase discount for freiberufler

I have recently asked similar questions to my Steuerberater. I'm also a freiberufler, who rarely uses a car at all, but if I use it, then sometimes it is for business purposes. His response in brief was: 1) yes, you would need to show you were using it for business purposes (at least, roughly 75% of...

They've even been showing some (not all) of the warm up games over the past few weeks. The commentary is pretty good too. The days when analysis of rugby on German TV focussed on the need to pass the ball backwards are long since gone.
Great to see it free to air.

Re: My Photovoltaikanlage

Prices here are definitely 30% down on 2-3 years ago. I think the larger battery doesn't make significant financial sense - particularly Alberto's table (if I have understood it correctly) would suggest a smaller battery would be more efficient. The slight difference (as I see it) is that a larger b...

So, I've had two more offers. Eon want just under 21k (so quite a bit more than their "non-binding indicative offer". They have provided a detailed breakdown, which includes: 18 panels (450w) 1,3k Euros 7,7 battery 4k Converter 1.3k Cut off system (so that the PV generates and we can use e...
