Re: Digital Exclusion part 1 The Euro soccer in Berlin
You can go to the Fanmeile instead and enjoy the games with 400 000 other football fans🙃 .. Talking about digital exclusion, in the UK election campaign there is talk about legislation to deal with people who resell concert tickets at very high prices. The normal prices, I find eye-watering, like at...

Re: UK general election 2024, who to vote for?
They think it will appeal to the grey voters who the Tories are very much in danger of losing. Likewise with the plan for no tax on pensions. Quite how they think they are going to pay for everything and keep reducing taxes I have no idea. Same applies to Labour though, they are all in cloud-cuckoo...

Managed to apply for a postal vote
The campaign seems fantastic, the tories want to reintroduce national service for eighteen year olds, for boys only? Not sure. Fortunately I am a bit too old for that.

Re: Money-saving tipps
Where I used to live hot water came very quickly. Either the tap was near the heater, or the hot water pipe was narrower. Enormous quantities of grey water used for bathing, showering, washing clothes, rinsing, could be easily diverted to a tank and used to flush the toilet, water the vegetables etc...

Re: Gardening
Eisheiligen? Schafskälte! The Schafskälte, sheeps cold, is a possible period of cold weather in June, the old farmers knew about it, their grandparents told them, so they sheared the sheep later when the risk of cold weather was negligible. Oftentimes the poor beasts suffered in the normal warm weat...

Re: Money-saving tipps
Weigh letters and try to keep them under 20 Gramm. The stamp prices in Germany are complicated, and a "Standardbrief" is smaller than a "Kompaktbrief"! I would have thought kompakt was smaller than standard 😕 Besides the Deutsche Post, there are private post services with lower t...

Re: Money-saving tipps
Trouble with fuel prices: you go off the Autobahn to find cheap fuel, drive several kilometers, the gas station is on the other side so you have to go to the next roundabout or junction to change sides. Feels like a lot of time. Some people are so mean, they drive to Luxemburg or Poland to fill up. ...

I guess enjoying football matches and concerts are not Grundbedürfnisse, basic needs, so the legislators might not be very interested.

Money-saving tipps
I think we had this on the earlier forum. I am planning to "save" money soon by collecting cherries. Makes a bit of work but it feels much better than buying fruit. And I find myself re-reading a book I read more than twenty years ago. Saves acquiring a new book, I guess. What other ways c...

I checked the theses, but no party is offering Freibier 👻 Freikugelschreiber, free ballpoint pens, are usually available. And useful notepads, sticky notes and more. The EU recently passed legislation requirung caps on disposable drink bottles to be fixed to the bottle! A good start, perhaps more s...

Re: Digital Exclusion part 1 The Euro soccer in Berlin
I wonder if this digital exclusion applies to other big events such as Taylor Swift concerts and the upcoming Paris Olympics. I would not want to experience either of those even if someone paid me.🙃 But there are still millions of people who do not have smartphones. Perhaps legislation could be con...

Re: e-scooter, because Fahrrad too anstrengend
I care a lot about my safety (and the safety of others!). Fast €bikes and €scooters are a curse on narrow cycleways. Countless motor vehicle drivers routinely ignore the law. Speed kills. It is a great shame that the Polizei do next to nothing to enforce traffic law. It could be so easy. .. In think...

Re: e-scooter, because Fahrrad too anstrengend
One can think what one will about €bikes but I think people who get €bikes should be encouraged to keep their conventional cycles ("pushbikes"!) too and even ride them occasionally. Riding a pushbike, like it or not, already provides financial and health and enviromental benefits. So I wo...
