Re: Reform proposal would make life harder for Brits living in the EU

Unfortunately, with the mess the UK political system is in (7 PMs in the last 10 years) I can see Reform getting into power. Maybe not in the next General Election but possibly the one after that. We have already had BoJo as PM so Farage wouldn't surprise me. A bit like the AfD here in DE. They will...

Great quote from Trump about Starmer's resignation - https://www.bbc.com/news/videos/cn8k4pr9k00o

Re: autopayment of bank credit card

I haven't had a credit or debit card that wasn't automatically paid in probably 25 years. I've also never paid to have a credit card. My current one is from TFBank in Sweden. I only need to use it once a year for a rental car in the U.S. where they won't take a debit card. The TF Mastercard Gold is...

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

I paid a substantial chunk last April (approx. €12k) but haven't recieved a letter confirming payment yet. The years paid do show up in my pension forecast but I have nothing official to pass on to the Finanzant. Is this going to be a problem? :? Do you have some documentation of the payment? I use...

I'm sure there will be more to come. And probably a lot of people involved that we don't, and never will, know about judging from the amount of redaction in the released documents.

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

I attached the letter from HMRC confirming the amount I had paid and the years I paid for and this was accepted by Finanzamt Köln without any problems.

If yours if refused or the Finanzamt question it then you can always add the explanation as an attachment.

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

This is new so it will no doubt be a bit chaotic to begin with. Some people think the guidance is clear but I see it as being open to interpretation due to the wording of the article, which is a problem. The website mentions: "Travelling on or after 25 February 2026 You may not be able to board...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Well the FB article makes it much clearer. I'm not too sure why the GOV.UK article didn't mention this. But since the certificate of entitlement costs £589 (https://www.gov.uk/right-of-abode/apply-for-a-certificate-of-entitlement) I think I will wait and see what happens. My UK passport expires in 3...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?

Interesting but the way you have worded it suggests that British citizens with dual nationality won't be able to travel to the UK without a UK passport, which isn't true. You seem to have missed out the following on the https://www.gov.uk/guidance/electronic-travel-authorisation-eta-guide-for-dual-c...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

I find that a bit harsh. I would not like all shops to go self checkout (mainly because all the crap happening like getting checked after you have gone through process, getting accused of theft, etc). Ditto shops that only take cards. Not keen. Sure, offer a discount to people using cards, etc. Car...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

It's not about me not having any sympathy with CC but the fact that he has stated several times on this, and the old TT, that he refuses to get a smartphone and will never get one. I have a lot of sympathy for older people who don't understand new tech but when CC refuses to even consider getting a ...

Re: Ryanair goes totally digital. No paper bording passes.

You seem to be constantly looking for these type of issues where things can only be done online and then raise the question as to whether it's age discrimination, which isn't the case. Age discrimination means that you are discriminated due to your age i.e. generally being very young or old but it i...

A quick question on this - the link that Panda posted mentions: Ich arbeite in Teilzeit oder in Vollzeit Sie verdienen monatlich mehr als 556 EUR? FYI - If you want to check out the songs an artist/band is likely to play before the concert have a look at https://www.setlist.fm/ Most artists/bands play the practically the same set list for the gigs of a particular tour. Morrissey is the same with only 1 or 2 song differences for each concert - ...

I've not tried it myself but I have heard of people using a VPN to connect to a 3rd country (i.e. Romania) and then buying YouTube Premium from that country as it's cheaper than buying it from their own country. There are some sites online regarding this (i.e. https://www.vpn-tools.com/youtube-cheap...

Re: Live music gigs

Good to hear you didn't pay for the tickets. I didn't realise Bruce Dickinson was pro-Brexit but he doesn't mention anything political in his concerts (or not the two I have seen him play) so it's not an issue for me. You do get some band leaders who take the opportunity of a concert to voice their ...
