Re: YouTube Premium

I've not tried it myself but I have heard of people using a VPN to connect to a 3rd country (i.e. Romania) and then buying YouTube Premium from that country as it's cheaper than buying it from their own country. There are some sites online regarding this (i.e. https://www.vpn-tools.com/youtube-cheap...

Re: Live music gigs

Good to hear you didn't pay for the tickets. I didn't realise Bruce Dickinson was pro-Brexit but he doesn't mention anything political in his concerts (or not the two I have seen him play) so it's not an issue for me. You do get some band leaders who take the opportunity of a concert to voice their ...

Re: Live music gigs

I wouldn't call ACDC a tribute band. Brian Johnson may not be an original member but he has been there for 45 years now and is the original singer of a lot of their music so it's not like they only play the Bon Scott songs. Now, when Axl Rose sang with ACDC that could be called a tribute band :) FYI...

Re: Live music gigs

I saw Rammstein last year in Frankfurt and they were excellent. I would have liked to see ACDC last year but at €150 it was too expensive as far as I am concerned and the concert in Dusseldorf this year is even more expensive at €165 for a ticket  Iron Maiden and Scorpions for me in July. I'v...

Re: German election February 2025

I think people like this see themselves as being different than the minorities/immigrants that are in the news for causing trouble, claiming benefits, etc. because they have lived here for a long time, pay taxes, etc. or whatever reason it happens to be. They think all of the comments about immigran...

Re: Deutsche Bahn

Are you sure you can't take any train? I've had a couple of ICE trains cancelled or rescheduled over the last couple of months and in each case in the App it mentioned you can take any train. I also received an email saying the same thing. I didn't book the Super Sparpreis ticket but the Sparpreis b...

Re: Deportation flyers/tickets in the mailboxes

Sounds very dodgy and possibly on the edge of what could be construed as legal (hetzerei?). I have a feeling this election run up is going to get nasty in DE. I've not missed being in the UK for the last few elections but we could have similar behaviour in Germany over the next 6 weeks or so.

Re: National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

By the way, the UK is talking about means testing the UK state pension, if they do that, depending on your pension income, you might get a reduced or no UK state pension, after having made all the payments I'm sure this will happen at some point but if we can claim the payments back in the German t...

National Insurance Class 3 contributions and German tax

I know you can claim NI Class 3 contributions for the UK pension in your German taxes but does this also apply for back payments for previous years? For example I have already filed my tax form for this year in Germany however if I decide to make NI Class 3 contributions for 2020/2021, 2021/2022, an...

Re: What got you flummoxed today?

No, the UK didn't have a central residence register, at least when I lived there. To get a credit anywhere, I needed to show 3 different 'official' bills to prove I live at a certain address...eg a gas, phone and elec bill. The idea of an identity card, or Anmeldung was definitely 'not British ' We...

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise you could book the trips on other sites than Eurostar itself. I haven't used the Eurostar since before covid but may be later this year so will compare the sites when I come to book.

Re: 1 month DSL/home internet contracts - any experience?

I originally had a 1 month DSL contract with Alice, which was taken over by O2 when they took over Alice probably around 12 or 13 years ago. I've had the DSL since 2007 and have worked from home during this time so have been using the internet at least 8 hours every day Mon - Fri for work as well as...
