Re: Additional dental insurance - do you have it?
Just curious. Do you guys have it? Where do you stand on dental insurance? Yes I have it via Getsafe... and I'm not impressed. It costs me €24 per month; aged 59 but with all my original teeth still :-) but they only cover 1 cleaning p.a. and I'm currently arguing with them about covering a root ca...

Re: Windows 11 to unsupported hardware or Linux Mint
If you’re a bit of a techie and know your way around computers and installing drivers, then nothing wrong with Linux Mint. You can even try it by running it from a USB stick. Otherwise I’d 100% go for Windows 11. I’ve been running W11 since the early beta and never had any problems. It’s also defini...

Re: UK property income in German tax return
So now I'm completely confused! :? Similar to OP: Employed, DE tax resident. Filling in declaration for 2024 and including rent from UK. Without UK rental income my return projection (using SteuerGo) is a tax refund of €600. When I add rental income of £9000 I am supposed to pay an additional €800 a...

Income tax allowance 2025
Not sure if I was sleeping or distracted but are there new rules for employeed workers to apply for income taxt allowance for next year? Steuergo, who I use to submit my yearly tax return sent me this: If you want to receive more net from gross income in 2025, you should apply for an income tax allo...

Re: becoming a UK non resident for tax matters
It's not about where you pay the tax (e.g. to HMRC for UK rental income) it's about having to declare your worldwide income. Double taxation agreements will mean you don't get taxed twice but you still have to declare it in Germany

Re: becoming a UK non resident for tax matters
" I have been living in Berlin... " sounds like you should have already declared your tax residency status in Germany. If you're not here as a tourist then you have to along with visa/residency permit. When I moved from the UK it was easy, I contacted HMRC before moving, filled in a form (...

Popular in Germany too: https://www.etfstream.com/articles/the-rise-of-etf-savings-plans Do they (e.g. Scalable Capital) take out the German withholding tax and sort all that out for investors? I know they have to provide an annual statement which I guess must be declared with your tax return. I'm j...

Veggie Sausages! Herecy in Germany I know but I'm veggie and after months of trying various brands I have finally found one from Aldi that is bearable. All the usual expensive meat substitute ones from Rewe, Lidl and the like are not so good. https://www.aldi-sued.de/de/p.mein-veggie-tag-veggie-wurs...

Re: Work harassment
Sorry to hear about your situation, that sucks. My own recommendation on top of the other suggestions here is to get legal insurance if you don't have it already. If you have 'issues' with an employer and want to threat or actually take them to court lawyers can get expensive. There isn't a 'no win ...

Re: Experience writing a Will in Germany
I was advised by my solicitor for my UK will (James McKenzie Ltd) that they could only cover UK-based assets and that a separate will needs to be drawn up in each country where any local assets are held. Also the executor or trustee of an estate, as envisioned in Anglo-American law, is basically unk...

I seem to be the odd one out here :D Apps: On Duolingo I'm up to a 1812 day streak ... that's over 4 years! It's great to dip in to but it does have some strange sentences and for some reason horses and cucumbers come up in sentences a lot [not together] I recently bought Babbel as a 6 mon...
