AER and Rendite
Probably a Kindergarten level question! Does Rendite in German mean the same as the AER which is usually given in English sources? Am trying to decide on a new Tagesgeld Konto, which as well as having different rates for new and old customers, have different interest intervals (weekly, monthly, annu...

New Deutschland Ticket
Has anyone else had a problem in agreeing to the new price for 2025? DB says that you have to actively agree through the Aboportal, they won't automatically issue the new ticket. I've tried several times but can't log in to the portal; keep getting the message that my data (Abo number/ d.o.b./postco...

Re: What is a suitable expression of 'Thank you' for legal support representing me in negotiating the MTA?
I can't see any problem with a nice non-financial gift that everyone in the office can share - lots of unacknowleged donkey work is done by the secretaries or whoever. Big flower arrangement + posh cake could hardly offend!
Re: Cider
I came across Cooper's Cider and Bio Cidre Trocken from Kelterei Heil in Rewe, just a small stock of bottles.

Re: Curtains, soft furnishings, where to donate?
Thanks for the suggestions. I'd rather guve to a shop if poss.Trouble with these big container collections is that I think items can only get looked at very quickly and then probably mostly relegated to recycling. In charity shops the customer can browse and use their imagination a bit and come out ...

Re: Curtains, soft furnishings, where to donate?
Thank you. I looked at their websites but they only seem to want money donations and volunteers. One has a Caritasmarkt for household things but their warehouse is full and it's in Ingolstadt!
I'll ring the local branch anyway to see if they have a suggestion.

Curtains, soft furnishings, where to donate?
Which charity shops in Berlin welcome these kind of donations? I have a pile of decent quaity lined curtains with proper gathered headings, (not flimsy Gardinen.) And scatter cushions, stuff like that. I usually donate clothes to Oxfam or Humana, but they don't seem to want household stuff. Have goo...

Re: Freistellungsbetrag for different accounts but same bank
Thank you Panda for clarifying.
(I have since discovered that TR doesn't actually have a classic Festgeld option, in case anyone is looking for it.)

Freistellungsbetrag for different accounts but same bank
Could someone kindly clarify: I'm opening two accounts in Trade Republic, one for Tagesgeld and one for Festgeld. Can I divide half my Freistellungsbetrag between the two ie 500€ each, or should I just assign all the allowance ie 1000€ to just one, as it's the same bank? I understand that if you hav...
Re: Cider
I tracked down a couple of bottles in Marktkauf (Edeka group) which I don't often go into as it's a really big supermarket on the other side of town and I hate spending more than 20 mins on grocery shopping. The storeroom lady brought me to the furthest corner of the place, bottom shelf. They just h...
Re: Cider
Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought of Apfelwein. That website is informative.
It just occurred to me that a little trip on my Deutschland Ticket out to Werder (where they have the annual Apfelblütenfest) might be fruitful!

Cider
Just back from the holiday in Ireland where we drank some really nice ciders. A while ago I noticed there seemed to be many more brews available now in the UK other than the ubiquitous Bulmers.
Any sightings in supermarkets here? (Berlin/B'burg)
Cheers!

Re: e-bike for my old Mum
How is her general balance? (Eg how long she can balance on each leg, should be minimum 10 secs.) I'm over 70, reasonably fit and active and have always cycled, but my balance has definitely disimproved, which I notice in subtle ways. Aren't e bikes significantly heavier too? Trike investigation sou...

Re: UK general election 2024, who to vote for?
Sorry to hear that, ds, do you have someone to do the proxy? I have found that postal mail has become much slower over recent years, normal letters taking at least a week.
Thumbs up for Wokingham though, they were really efficient and we've just put ours in the postbox.

OK, I've found it. You have to order it on your local transport network and go to the ticket selection there.

Buying a bike ticket online
I have the DB App and the € 49 ticket. There is no ticket machine at my station to buy a bike ticket. Wouldn't you think you could go to the App and buy a bike ticket? Silly me! After hunting around, I eventually came across a YT video explaining how you do it. Only a couple of dozen steps needed, a...

Re: Sofa buying
Yes, the Ikea sofas are decent quality, in fact I think our ancient one upstairs is an Ektorp which is still going strong and is comfy. They don't seem to do as many cover options as they used to. Haven't got round to visiting other suggested places yet, must make a day of it with my €49 ticket. (Ho...
