Re: autopayment of bank credit card
I've also had Advanzia for a long time, and I try to pre book the payment as soon as the balance is sent, from my Sparkasse account. On the odd occasions I have forgotten, they send an email reminder very quickly, which I pay pronto, and have never been charged interest.

Brexit Residence Permit Renewal
OH was checking his Aufenthalts card yesterday, which was issued under the withdrawal agreement with GB to people resident before the final withdrawal date. His expires at the end of this April. We thought they were issued for 10 years or would be sutomatically extended, but it seems that can vary f...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Sorry but that doesn't make sense. If you are a British and EU citizen, then settled status is of no relevance and why, if you are UK resident would you not have a UK passport as a dual citizen? If correct it seems somewhat niche! That's the problem with these changes, everything is now niche and y...

Re: What Made You Laugh Today
That reminded me of the lovely children's story poems by Lynley Dodd. The dog character is Hairy Maclary with a variety of aptly named pals such as Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum, and a very characterful cat called Slinky Malinky.

Franklan, I'm sure I'm being very dense but I need that one explaining! Apart from it looks like an Irish street and it's actually not raining .....

Re: What Made You Laugh Today
I have been binge watching these three hilarious Irish lads the last couple of weeks. Their sketches are so clever and funny. And they take my mind off the horrible news of late, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHPEu5xtwk8 There are loads of them: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzb-6smlTg5UP...

Re: Why are you happy today?
Thanks Franklan, yes I did, luckily OH was at home and brought the car to the station so we drove up. Augenartz practices are few and far between outside of cities so I stay with the one I got into when I was working in Berlin. They are extremely busy so I hate to miss appointments as am being monit...

Re: Why are you happy today?
Two days ago bought a 24hr DB ticket to go up to Berlin to my Augenartzt appointment. You do not miss these golddust appointments if you can possibly help it.Train (only possible one I could take due to big diversions in central Berlin) arrived with only a 10 min delay, wow! We all settle down optim...

Re: Renting a Postfach
I googled Postfach mieten and got to this dp site where you simply enter your postcode to find your nearest one:
Briefkästen, Postfilialen, Paketshops von Deutsche Post DHL https://share.google/XgEOF3ga9xtjVvOBl
Scroll down to Postfächer in Ihrer Nähe then Standorte.

Re: Present recommendations to take to America
Chimneysweeps are traditionally lucky ans may be invited to weddings wearing their regalia. How about a Schornsteinfeger Räuchermann and include some packets of the scented smoke cones.
(Our Schornstfeger is tall, blond and always wears his gear proudly! Mmmm!)

Oh dear, can you get it seen to today? If it's got a sharp edge I found out that chewing gum wrapped round it protects your tongue and lasts surprisingly long before needing replacing.

Re: Glatteis/Black ice clearing
The Streusplitt was delivered today, ordered it only yesterday evening. Instantly made a huge difference to the footpath and drive.
Feel happier about driving today, deliverer said the Landstrasse is fine which was my biggest worry.

Re: Glatteis/Black ice clearing
Cat litter, interesting! Isn't that a bit expenive for a large area? Think I've found a delivery company, hopefully a small sack will turn up tomorrow. Am trying to avoid driving in these conditions. Got spooked a couple of years ago when someone slid into my car on a bad local bend in light snow. E...

Glatteis/Black ice clearing
We are required to keep the pavement in front of the house clear of snow etc. (Ours is 40m long.) But how the hell do you deal with black ice? I have Streusalz which is frowned upon environmentally, but the ice thaws a bit then refreezes later. Or drizzle arrives and flash freezes as the temperature...

Re: Can British citizens travel to the UK using a non-British passport?
Anyone know why they are changing the rules ? Who is it supposed to target for non entry ? Or does it give the UK extra powers to spot any TAX thief's ? This article provides some background (a trail of muddled decisions) Will British dual nationals really be forced to have a valid UK passport from...

Entering UK for dual citizens new regulations
The new British passport dual citizenship rules, explained - Yahoo News UK https://share.google/0GJGgMHmKjZtcLKd6 Though dual citizendhip is perfectly legal and recognised, you should use your UK passport for entering the UK to avoid complications. I think that also applies to UK/Irish citizens but ...
