Re: Unoccupied house insurance, water supply switch off and heating

the Makler were pretty good advising us not to sell yet as interest rates are so high reducing the value a lot compared to 3 years earlier. Bad advice, actually. Had you sold 3yr earlier, you could have saved some maintenance costs and invested in the stock market and earned more than 30%. Did you ...

Re: Unoccupied house insurance, water supply switch off and heating

I sold my half renovated house last year and the advice I received from forums, friends etc. was that I'd never increase the value by the same amount of money I spent on the renovation. Perhaps the property value would increase by 50% of the renovation cost. And that doesn't include the time and str...

Re: Stock market investments

Some people think that its over valued, supported by many facts and figures. Some people are reducing their involvement in stocks very much. Who are these people? They're probably the same people who have been predicting a crash for the past decade. I wonder how much money they have lost out on by ...

Re: Proposed tax changes from 01.01.2025 (Jahressteuergesetz 2024)

I am most interested in Artikel 11 Änderung des Investmentsteuergesetzes, specifically 5.2.b: im Zeitpunkt der Veräußerung im Sinne des Satzes 1 unmittelbar oder mittelbar Investmentanteile an dem Investmentfonds hält, deren Anschaffungskosten mindestens 500 000 Euro betragen https://www.bundesrat....

Re: Proposed tax changes from 01.01.2025 (Jahressteuergesetz 2024)

Are there likely to be any changes to the law when it is discussed in the Bundesrat? There will be some minor changes, e.g. the lawyers are not happy that it forbids them to use their lawyer-specific electronic bEA software from being used to write messages to the Finanzamt, so they will get overtu...

Re: Why are you unhappy today?

I'm in the process of getting my citizenship and I'm concerned the next government (CxU/AfD/FDP, ?) will repeal the new citizenship laws that were passed this year, specifically the option of dual citizenship.

Also does the coalition collapse have any impact on the law? I assume not as it's already passed the Bundestag.

Naturalization application: interview on basic law

Has anyone during their naturalisation application had an interview regarding the basic law? I received a letter (text below) asking to review the new law and arrange an appointment so they can ask me questions about it. I completed the Einbürgerungstest before the new law was passed and I wonder if...

Loyalty tax. New customers get good deals funded by existing customers who don't bother searching for a better deal with a new company.

New law: exit tax for ETFs (from 500k)

This might be an interesting development to the exit tax for anyone who invests in ETF and is considering migrating from Germany in the future: The Bundestag is set to pass the Annual Tax Act 2024 this afternoon. At the initiative of the Bundesrat, the law also includes an exit tax on ETFs: If you m...

Re: Divorce in Germany…assets before and after marriage

What would happen if the wife started the marriage with 200k assets, ended the marriage with 150k assets, and has a depot with capital gains of 20k. 200 - 150 = -50 total loss during marriage Would the 20k capital gains still be equalised? No. Are individual asset (depot, property, classic car etc....

Re: Aufenthaltserlaubnis v Niederlassungserlaubnis

As far as I understand it, your 'Daueraufenthaltsstatus' is the gold standard. You won't get an extra sausage for owing a 'Niederlassungserlaubnis'. However, you can boost your status by applying for a German citizenship. You can keep the British one. (new dual citizenship law, starting 2X June 202...

Splitting craftsmen invoice between 2 individual tax returns

After separating in 2023, me and my wife will submit individual tax returns for 2024. We have a 2024 invoice from a craftsman that we would like to include in our tax return. Can we: 1. Each enter 50% of the invoice on our individual tax return 2. Both enter 100% of the invoice on our individual tax...

Who would sell when it's down??? Oh yes, people who bought stocks in their margins and have to sell when down. I've never done that. I'm sure Alberto hasn't, either. Also people who invested money they need in the short term (which you should never do), people who think they can time the market by ...

Re: Where to dispose the Insurance Crd/Credit Card etc.?

You can take it to your bank and ask them to destroy it. Yes, the bank will cut up the cards into lots of small pieces, especially the parts with name and numbers on, and put pieces in different rubbish bins - some will be in the bins at home, whilst some will be at work, or at the bus stop, or whe...
